Located within a mile of Silver Bay, Minnesota, Black Beach is about the halfway mark of one’s North Shore journey. As the name suggests, the beach is known for its sand that gives off a diamond-like sparkle with a black hue. Google tells me that the appearance is caused by the historical transportation of taconite tailings along the beach. With a stunning view of Lake Superior, Black Beach was a fantastic place to stop and enjoy a sandwich and chips picnic. The adjoining campground would also put one in great proximity to so many of the gems that Minnesota’s North Shore has to offer.

Love Black Sand Beach. Also, you’ve inspired me to add another goal to my list (picnic on a beach.)
Awww I love that goal!
